The call to action as published on Oct. 11
The public money nearest to you is your state’s pension fund and your state’s contracts, and your state representative votes on both. Ask yours for a bill that ends state contracts with, and divests the state’s pension funds from, the companies undermining democracy, constitutional rights, a free press and stability abroad, and from the index funds that hold them.
Here are four companies you can name:
Palantir, which took $30 million from ICE in April 2025 to build a deportation-tracking platform
Meta, which shut CrowdTangle and ended fact-checking
X, which ended research access and sued the Center for Countering Digital Hate for counting anyway, a suit a federal judge dismissed in March 2024 as an attempt at “punishing the Defendants for their speech”
Alphabet, whose YouTube paid $24.5 million in September 2025 to settle the president’s lawsuit over his 2021 suspension, with $22 million of it earmarked for a White House ballroom.
Write as yourself, say what you do and why you care, and ask your representative to endorse the bill publicly, by email. Find your state representative here.
