Don't Sue First, Do First: 10 Soft Secession Policies You Can Fight For Today
The philosophy is simple: don't sue first, do first, wherever and whenever possible. Revenue and accountability create independence. Here's what you should be calling, emailing, and showing up to demand from your mayors, governors, legislators, and attorneys general right now:
1. Public Job Portal: Demand your state or city create a public alternative to private job hiring sites. Use existing infrastructure, charge businesses for postings, keep it free for job seekers. Revenue and public service in one.
2. Federal Tax Withholding Redirect: Push for all state employees and businesses to reroute federal tax withholdings through the state for audit purposes. Yes, it's ambitious. Start the conversation.
3. Protection Against Federal Overreach: Demand your municipality commit to arresting anyone conducting masked, warrantless abductions. Civil liberties need teeth.
4. SSI/Medicaid Fund Recovery: Tell your AG to pursue criminal charges in the federal government for their misappropriation of SSI and Medicaid funds. This pairs well with the redirection/audits of funds. Demand state-level mechanisms requiring direct paymentb compliance of those taxes within 60 days, with real enforcement.
5. Public Healthcare Option: If you're not in Washington State, demand your state adopt something like Cascade Care. Public options remove Republican federal levers of control.
6. Corruption Investigations Now: Demand your state AG open corruption investigations into elected and appointed officials. No one is above the law. Start arresting people.
7. Public Banking: North Dakota has had public banking since 1919. Demand that your state and city explore it. Keep public money working for the public.
8. Municipal Broadband: Internet is a utility. Demand your city provide it. This provides valuable revenue to fund policies in the public interest.
9. Ethical Contracting: Demand your state cut contracts and divest from companies supporting authoritarian regimes. Your tax dollars shouldn't fund oppression.
10. Interstate Healthcare Cost Recovery: If your state provides healthcare to out-of-state residents fleeing their inadequate systems, demand reimbursement. Idaho floods Washington hospitals? Idaho should pay the bills.
Start calling today and start with one demand. Pick any of them and dial your representative's office. Then send them a letter. Then send them a birthday card that has the policy inside. Then send them an email. Then schedule meetings with them to demand it. Invite friends to do the same. Then let them know you'll be enthusiastically donating to and supporting their opponent if they won't act in the best interest of their constituents. Then do it all again tomorrow.
It's time for political guerilla warfare.
